Wine of the Week – Fumanelli Valpocella Classico Superiore 2013

From Valpolicella in Italy, Marchesi Fumanelli has been making wines since 1470 and this wine is one of the best of its kind I have personally tasted. The estate is one of Italy’s largest, owned by a family with long roots and an historic family-owned winery eight miles from  Verona.

2013 saw a rainy, humid winter followed by a dry summer. The grapes were 30-40 year old pergola and 8-10 year old guyot vines on the Squarano Estate. They were hand-harvested and consisted of 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella.

The rich and juicy wine offers acidity along with the cherry, blackberry and currant flavors with hints of vanilla and dried fruit. Its structure and elegance set it apart from your every day Valpolicella! With 13.5% alcohol, it retails for  suggested price of $29.99. It’s imported by Pasternak Wine Imports.
