What’s Brewin’ – Night Shift Whirlpool

Three friends who shared a love of home brewing opened Night Shift Brewing in 2012 in a very small space in Somerville, MA out of a desire to create, as they put it, an “energetic, inspired, world-class culture.” The three ‘desk workers” described their initial endeavors as “the night shift,” and it became far more than that. They sampled their beers against commercial brews, comparing them by style, brand and region.

Today, in their two-year-old 30,000 sq. ft. brewery which they built in  Everett, MA, they’ve come a long way, working today with restaurant partners and others and hoping to sell their beers in other states by next year. Whirlpool is 4.5% ABV American pale ale with notes of ripe fruits – think citrus and peach, creating a hoppy experience for buyers.

We liked Whirlpool for it’s creativity and look forward to doing a tour of the brewery one day this Spring. Tours are offered in the afternoon and Night Shift requests you bring a non-perishable food item or dollar donation to be donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank.
