A feast of programs/activities at RI’s Hope and Main

WARREN, RI –  Hope & Main offers a month full of classes and events, open to the public (some free, some of a fee. Check them out and register for any of the classes! Questions?They’re there to help! Call at 401.245.7400 or drop them a line.

CLASSES & EVENTS for everyone:

FRI. JUNE 3 @ 6PM – PASTA MAKING WITH KAREN GREENE OF SECRETS IN THE KITCHEN:
Experience hands-on pasta making class with Karen Greene as she shares  “Secrets in the Kitchen”. Students will prepare pasta, and enjoy a family-style meal complete with wine! $50

SAT. JUNE 4 @ 11AM – SAUCES OF ITALY WITH ERIKA ZANOBINI OF LA PICCOLA TOSCANA:
Join Erika Zanobini as she teaches the essentials of perfect Italian sauce and demonstrates making pesto, Bolognese and a cream sauce. All students will get to taste test as sauces are expertly prepared and set aside for everyone to take home! $35

THU. JUNE 9 @ 6PM – THE CRAFT OF HOME BREWING BEER WITH ROB MCKIM & BLEU GRIJALVA:
Join farmers/home-brewers Rob and Bleu in discussing hop varietals and the craft of home brewing beer. Learn the basics of beer ingredients, how to create the perfect flavor profile, and bottling. Samples of beer will be served and students will leave with plenty to take home! $35

SAT. JUNE 11 @ 6PM – BEES AND HONEY EXTRACTION CLASS WITH GROOVY FOOD FARM:
Join Rob McKim, Bleu Grijalva and Emily Jodka for a lesson on the complex and beautiful world of the honey bee hive. See a hive in action, search for the Queen, “brood,” and even extract some honey! Each attendee with leave with a small sample of responsibly produced Rhode Island honey from bees raised by your instructors. $35

TUE. JUNE 14 @ 6PM – EASY, HEALTHY SUMMER SALADS WITH KATHLEEN BELLICCHI OF BELLICHI’S BEST:
Having owned a vegetarian restaurant, Kathleen Bellicchi knows a thing or two about making vegetables sing. Join Kathleen in exploring unique, healthful salad ingredients as well as the art of balancing flavors and textures, and making your own dressings. Enjoy recipes like watermelon and arugula, or the light summery fizz of cucumber with vinegar. This class will take summertime salads to a whole new level! $30

EVERY SUNDAY, JUNE 19-OCTOBER 2 @ 10AM-2PM – SCHOOLYARD MARKET:
Our outdoor farmers market returns for a second year! Eat, drink and shop local with an unparalleled lineup of local food producers, including farmers, bakers, beverage makers, chefs and pit-masters preparing fresh breakfast and lunch options. Tour and learn in the community garden, enjoy live music, and experience gardening and/or food demonstrations! FREE EVENT

MON. JUNE 20 @ 6PM – COOKIN’ IT OLD SCHOOL WITH CHEF JASON TIMOTHY & SEAN LARKIN OF LAUGHING GORILLA:
Craft beer aficionados are invited to join one of RI’s newest caterers for a raucous dinner experience! Providence-based Laughing Gorilla specializes in globally-inspired street food prepared with locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. Chef Jason Timothy’s menu is expertly paired with a stellar beer lineup by none other than Revival Brewing’s Founder and Brew Master, Sean Larkin. Guests will have an evening of inspiring conversation, laughter and delicious dinner in good company. $100

TUE. JUNE 21 @ 6PM – EMPANADA CLASS WITH CHEF CRYSTAL PEREIRA OF ¡HOLA! BAKED GOODS:
¡Hola! is bringing delicioso back by popular demand! Crystal will share the secrets of making her signature empanadas. This hands-on, vegetarian-friendly class will teach students how to make the ultimate Latin American portable meal! Students will enjoy freshly made empanadas served with a complimentary salad and wine pairing. Students may also choose to pre-order a dozen appetizer-sized ready-to-bake empanadas! $45 Hands on Class + Salad + Wine OR $70 Hands on Class + Salad + Wine + 12 Empanadas

FRI. JUNE 24 @ 6PM – SUSHI: THE EVOLUTION AND ARTFORM WITH CHEF CHRIS RODRIQUES:
Explore the fascinating origins of sushi with an experienced “Itamae”, Chef Rodriques will teach students various preparations with both traditional and modern ingredients, as well as discuss its evolution into a globally celebrated cuisine. $35

SAT. JUNE 25 @ 9AM-5PM – FERMENTATION GURU SANDOR KATZ WORKSHOP & LECTURE:
Join celebrated fermentation revivalist and author, Sandor Katz, in this full-day workshop and lecture! Attendees will learn how to make fermented delicacies at home as well as the healing qualities and nutritional importance and history of live-culture ferments, as well as their integral role in human cultural evolution. Nicknamed “Sandorkraut”, Katz heads the fermentation revival happening in American kitchens. Empower yourself with simple techniques for fermenting these healthful foods. $120
CLASSES for entrepreneurs:

MON. JUNE 6 @ 6PM – SOCIAL MEDIA & WEBSITE WITH EMILY JODKA:
This “crash course” in business web presence will teach attendees to jump-start effective advertising and brand/product promotions through varied forms of media. This class will also demonstrate how to best leverage social media and how to build a following online. $20 public, Free for Hope & Main Members

MON. JUNE 27 @ 6PM – SCALING UP YOUR BUSINESS WITH JOSHUA COOPER: Take your product to the next level! Join Research Chef Josh Cooper as he walks you through the process of transitioning your recipe production from your kitchen to a commercial kitchen without compromising quality. Come and unfold the mysteries and challenges of scaling up. This class is free for Members and their employees. $20 public, Free for Hope & Main Members
