Annual golf outing of FCSI and MAFSI benefits Boston Rescue Mission

The Northeast Chapters of Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI) and Manufacturers Agents for Foodservice Industry (MAFSI) celebrated their 43rd annual golf outing and reception this month at Andover Country Club, Andover, MA, welcoming 134 participants, an additional 21 dinner attendees and 81 tee sign sponsors. The event generated $16,550.

“Boston Rescue Mission is grateful and honored to have the attention of both FCSI and MAFSI,” says Manager of Information Eric Grenfell-Muir who accepted the donation. In addition to offering warm meals and a safe place to sleep, the Mission actively participates in food recovery in and around Boston. Working in partnership with Feeding Our Neighbors, a New England NACE initiative, the monies will help to outfit existing vans with safe and reliable refrigeration to allow an expanded radius of food rescue in and beyond the city. Additional funds will help the Mission to purchase an upgraded food transport van. “Knowledge is power”, adds the event’s chief organizer, Jim Whiffen, FCSI Golf Committee member and president of Fountainhead Foodservice Group, Burlington, MA, “Over 130 people will leave here today aware of the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act; information that has the power to change many people’s lives”.

The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act, signed into law on October 1, 1996, provides national liability protection to citizens, businesses and nonprofit organizations that act in good faith to donate, recover and distribute excess food.
