Wine of the Week -Madrigal Family Winery Petite Sirah Napa Valley 2012

Chris Madrigal, third generation proprietor and wine maker of this Napa Valley winery, continues a long association with the land and its people, inspired by his family’s history.

The family came from Mexico in the late 1930’s, farming apples, pears, walnuts and grapes, and his father, Jess, chose to focus on wine, starting the business that now has grown to 800 acres.

He’s a believer in luck, noting that “I always say sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. I like being good and a lot of the things that have happened in our life has been a result of working hard, but if there wasn’t luck involved with it, or if we weren’t at the right place at the right time, our story could be drastically different.”

This wine offers scents of cassis, espresso and dark chocolate and is heady, oaky and rich with balanced tannins. It’s 14.9% ABV and has a suggested retail price of $34. If you love Petite Sirah as we do, this is a wine you will want on your list! Go to http://www.madrigalfamilywines.com.
