Banyan names award-winning chef from The Gallows

BOSTON – Banyan Bar + Refuge, the South End’s Pan-Asian gastropub, recently named Scott Jensen, formerly chef at it’s sister restaurant, The Gallows, as its chef.

Jensen will focus his attention on Chinese and South East Asian cuisine at Banyan where the menu’s food categories include dim sum, dishes, fried rice and noodles.

Banyan calls itself a “Refuge,” he says, because guests can visit several times a week for lunch, brunch or dinner and always find something new. Dine at the bar or a banquette, sit inside or outdoors on the patio. “I promise you will not leave disappointed – or hungry,” Chef Jensen declares.

A native of Rutland, VT, Jensen is a New England Culinary Institute graduate (2006) and has cooked in Boston for the following decade at Vintage Lounge, The Beehive, Alchemy (in Gloucester, MA) and Opus and Naumkeag Ordinary in Salem. He’s been executive chef at The Gallows since 2015.

Part of the Boston-based Gallows Group which includes the South End’s The Gallows and Blackbird Doughnuts with locations in the neighborhood, the Fenway and a third in Harvard Square in Cambridge, scheduled to open later this year.
