Wine of the Week – Chateau Puy-Blanquet St. Emilion Grand Cru 2009

This lovely French wine makes for good sipping indoors on a cold winter night. From Bordeaux, it has good tannins and notes of plum, blackberry and cedar. The winery is owned by the Jacquet family which acquired it in 1955 and has 25 year-old vines grown in soil rich in clay and chalk. This vintage has a floral nose with suggestions of licorice as well as red berries and blackberries. The winery practices ‘green harvesting,’ picking the grapes by hand.  It’s medium bodied and bright with its  own freshness. Serve cool – the winery suggests at “cellar temperature,” to bring out its freshness. Go to www.thewinecellarinsider.com/…/chateau-puy-blanquet-st-emilion-bordeaux-wine/
