Endicott College intros 2-yr. Hospitality degree

BOSTON – Endicott College Boston introduces a new, two-year Associate of Science degree in Hospitality Management, targeted to working industry professionals who seeks to earn a degree to enable them to advance to supervisory or management roles.
The class schedules are geared to persons who need to balance work with the academic curriculum. Many of the prospective students, says Project Consultant David M. Gibbons, a former hotelman, will be “first generation college attendees and in many cases, first generation Americans.
“With the growing inventory of hotel rooms, restaurants and convention space Boston needs to insure that we continue to build the people culture of trained professionals that will be needed to keep Boston as a world class hospitality destination.”
The school, located at 19 Temple Place in the ABCD Learning Center building in Downtown Crossing, offers an associate degree starting this fall.
Endicott has reached out to the stakeholders in the industry to tailor the program to the real needs of the community. Brian Pellinen, Academic Dean of Professional Studies, has worked closely with the front line management of local hotels as well as their respective corporate offices. “In some hotels as many as 50 percent of the management positions are filled by someone already working at the hotel,” says Academic Dean of Professional Studies Brian Pellinen. “That will soon be the norm and it highlights the need for programs that are relevant to the working individual. The hospitality industry is a career gateway for many people, and we want to help students build the skills to make it an even more rewarding career choice.”
Marcelo Juica, director of Endicott College Boston, adds that the school “has always been an innovator in assisting students in accrediting prior learning or life experience, and that practice will apply to this new degree as well. “Our counselors will work one-on-one with students to assist them in crafting a personalized schedule and financial package.”
