Hearth ‘n Kettle celebrates 20th anniversary

RANDOLPH, MA – Dunkin’ Brands’ stock rose some eight percent this week, says Boston Business Journal, raising the question of whether JAB Holding, a European investment company, is looking to buy the Canton, MA-based chain. In 2016, JAB bought Panera Bread for a reported $7.2 million.

Seafood Expo North America expects Mar. 6-8 Show to be biggest ever

BOSTON – The 36th Seafood Expo North America taking place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center March 6-8 is expected to be the largest ever with 1,244 exhibiting firms from 50 countries.

The event includes the 10th Annual Oyster Shucking Competition to find the fastest oyster shucker in the East, a number of master classes about octopus and oysters, and the Seafood Excellence Awards competition to choose the Best New Retail and Best New Foodservice Products. Vinh Hoan Corporation’s Char Marked Barramundi, High Liner Foods’ Simply Sauce Seafood Bites, Azuma Foods Internationals Inc.’s Tobikko Umami and Trident Seafoods’ SeaFusions Pacific Cod Bites are the products vying for the prize in the Best New Foodservice category.

An extensive Conference Program includes a keynote presentation by Kent Greenfield, professor of law and Dean’s Research Scholar at Boston College Law School, as well as numerous panels and discussions, according to Portland, ME-based Diversified Communications, operator of the exposition. This year’s program revolves around three tracks: Seafood Sustainability, Seafood Business & Marketplace and Seafood Food Safety & Compliance (policy).

New England Food Show opens Mar. 16-18 at BCEC

The Massachusetts Restaurant Association’s New England Food Show opens Sunday, March 16 through Tuesday, March 18 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center with 500-plus booth showcasing new trends, equipment and products. |
Highlights include a keynote speech by new Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, (Mar. 16), a mixology competition with bartenders from Trina’s, The Franklin, and , Ward 8 (Mar. 16), a panel on the role of online bloggers (Mar. 17) and an Iron Chef-style competition among chefs Tim Maslow (Ribelle, Strip T’s), Brendan Pelley, (Zebra’s Bistro & Wine Bar, and Steve “Nookie”Postal, Commonwwalth. The first ever Culinary Cookoff is sponsored by Costa Fruit & Provisions and Paul W. Marks Co.
at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel, the MRA’s Annual Awards Dinner takes place Monday evening, March 17, at 6 p.m. At the reception and dinner, the MRA will honor the restaurant industry’s standout leaders. This year’s honorees are: Restaurateur of the Year, Steve DiFillippo of Davio’s; Business Partner of the Year, Ken’s Foods (Marlborough); Business Partner Associate of the Year, Glenn Lawler of Horizon Beverage Co.
