Brooklyn to get DeKalb Market Hall downtown

BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn will get its own food hall at
DeKalb Market where Katz’s Deli will expand for the very first time. Other tenants are said to include Hard Times Sundaes, Wilma Jean, Ample Hills and Fletcher’s Brooklyn Barbecue. Also among the 40-some vendors will be Bunker Vietnamese, Jianbing Company, Pierogi Boys, Arepa Lady and more. The marketplace is at 445 Albee Square West and will reportedly include a stage, Zagat New York reports.

Serafina Boston opens 74-seat patio downtown

BOSTON – Serafina Boston has a new 74-seat patio in the Financial District downtown in a setting that looks more like a garden than a busy urban street. Located along Summer St., it has long, picnic-style tables with umbrellas. Check at the inside or outdoor host stand. Plans call for adding outdoor heaters as well to extend the season and keep guests warm on chilly days and nights.

 2 NYC restaurants temporarily shuttered

NEW YORK – Fraunces Tavern, a 305-year-old landmark, and E.A.K. Ramen were temporarily shut down for sanitary code issues, but are expected to re-open, according to a published report.

Foxwoods® launches HighFlyer Zipline

MASHANTUCKET, CT – Foxwoods® Resort Casino plans to owner The HighFlyer Zipline, first phase of a plan to introduce ecotourism this summer. It will be a 33-story high line that will carry guests from the top of Fox Tower to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center with a top speed of 60-plus mph. The initiative coincides with the celebration of the resort’s 25th anniversary and is said to be “just the beginning of a strategy that will offer guests exclusive and unforgettable experiences in one place,” says President & CEO Felix Rappaport. Also, with partner Craveable Hospitality Group, owners of David Burke Prime, it will open Caputo Trattoria later this summer in its Grand Pequot Tower with Italian cuisine from various regions. Johnny Carino’s Italian files second bankruptcy

AUSTIN, TX – The owner of Johnny Carino’s Italian, Fired Up Inc., filed for its second bankruptcy since 2013, according to Nation’s Restaurant News. It currently has 84 units, franchised and company owned, down from 173 in 2006. The company is said to be seeking a buyer.

AMHERST, MA – The Northeast Organic Farming Assn.’s 42nd annual Summer Conference takes place here at University of Massachusetts Amherst Aug. 12-14. 1,000 participants will explore such challenges as climate change, racial inequity and more. Leah Penniman of Soul Fire Farm and André Leu of the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM) are the keynote speakers. Knowledgeable presenters will offer workshops on a variety of topics in eight 90-minute sessions.
