Wine of the Week – Los Vascos Grande Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc, 2012

This rich and elegant wine from Los Vascos in Chile’s Colchagua Valley blends Lafite traditions with the winery’s own terroir. Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired the brand in 1988 after searching 100 Chilean wines to find one that met its standards of excellence.

Grande is an appropriate designation for this wine is unique, grand and special. It’s described as “a benchmark for elegance and finesse” and that is not an exaggeration.
Sniff cherries, black currants (75% Cabernet Sauvignon), strawberries (5% Malbec), raspberries (10% Syrah) and plums with hints of bay leaf and black pepper (10% Carmenére), according to the winemaker, Marcelo Gallardo. Deep ruby red, it also has a herbal notes – think vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg cloves, and more. The grapes for this particular vintage were outstanding quality with “remarkable concentration.” It is 14% ABV.

It’s rich beauty leaves the sipper wanting more and it’s a grand way to celebrate and make special a non-special occasion!

The wine is imported by Pasternak Wine Imports in Harrison, NY.
