Products on Parade – JTM Food Group Premium Beef Stew

A new Premium Beef Stew from JTM Food Group, was created for a client in the healthcare industry to address the needs of a reduced fat and reduced sodium diet while providing a classic comfort food.
Made with chunks of premium beef, potatoes, carrots and onions in a rich beef sauce, the stew is packed in a bag which can be boiled or steamed. It’s part of the “better steps” line with more than 100 gluten-free items. Each 6-oz. serving has 2.3 grams of fat and 496 grams of sodium.

GREENFIELD, MA – Learn more about gluten-free and allergen issues at an upcoming seminar from Wheelwright Consultants. Following up on last month’s notice about Celiac Disease and food allergies being covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, Wheelwright will offer seminars to explore issues involved in accommodating guests with gluten and food allergy concerns. The programs will be given by Bruce Homstead, M.S., LD, RD from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Tuesday, April 9 in Greenfield;Tuesday, April 23 in Springfield; and
Tuesday, April 30 in Pittsfield.

Recently, a consent decrees from a Federal Court in Boston classified Celiac disease and other gluten-related medical conditions and food allergies as “disabilities” under the Public Accommodations Clause of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
While Massachusetts is the first state in the nation to require all foodservice operations to have a food-allergy trained individual on staff who can answer questions about food allergies, foodservice operations are presently not obligated to provide gluten and/or allergen-free foods. The consent decree, signed by Lesley University, could mandate foodservice operations to provide gluten and allergen-free options to all customers. Homstead is on the Board of the Celiac Sprue Association and has many years of experience in consulting with and managing healthcare foodservice operations.
