Wine of the Week – Marchese Fumanelli Valpolicello Classico Superiore 2013

Marchese Fumanelli’s estate, Squarano in Valpolicello, has been making wines since 1471. The vineyards, among Cypress and Cherry trees, are well used to cultivating grapes and make beautiful wines. This lovely Valpolicello brings together old, traditional winemaking technique with contemporary ones to create an expression that pays tribute to the terroir.

With notes of cherry, currant and blackberry, it is well structured, elegant and 13.5 percent ABV. 2013 brought a very humid and rainy winter which was, followed by a warm, dry summer with a little rain during early harvesting. The grapes were hand harvested and selected from 30-40 year old pergola and 8-10 year old guyot vines. Wine harvesting comes in early Fall . The
pergola vines are 25-30 years old, the guyot vines are 8-10 years old with 2500 plants per acre.
Vinification occurs separately with cold maceration. The grapes are held  8-10 months in
French barriques followed by a minimum of three months in the bottle. Visit http://www.pasternakwine.com for more information.http://pasternak-wines.simpleflame.com/_webapp_4570895/Marchesi_Fumanelli
