Wine of the Week – Santa Carolina VSC Assemblage 2010

This is a wine with a strong personality that shines through and introduces newcomers to the long heritage of Chile’s Santa Carolina. It’s described by the winery as its “emblematic” wine, one that “summarizes the winery’s spirit.”
Deep red color reflects the rich blend of 60% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carmenere, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Malbec. Red fruits abound, with raspberry and plum notes and a floral hint of violets. Well balanced and elegant, it has a long finish.
Grapes are sourced from the Cachapoal Valley in Chile’s central zone and are hand picked. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and later, after pressing, malolactic fermentation occurs before the wine is aged in new French oak barrels. The wine is 14.7 ABV.
